Il nuovo centro dell'Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia presso l'Università di Ferrara e segnala la disponibilità di una posizione post-doc che potrebbe essere d'interesse per i dottori di ricerca.

Si ricercano persone fortemente motivate con una formazione in Chimica, Elettrochimica o Scienza dei Materiali per attività di ricerca nell'ambito dello sviluppo di nuove interfacce neurali.

A POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IS AVAILABLE AT THE CENTER FOR
TRANSLATIONAL NEUROPHYSIOLOGY OF SPEECH AND COMMUNICATION (CTNSC) OF THE
ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY IN FERRARA, ITALY.

RESEARCH AREA: IMPROVING PERFORMANCE AND BIOCOMPATIBILITY IN BRAIN
MACHINE INTERFACES

FOREGROUND: To carry out long term neurophysiological and Brain Machine
Interface studies, improvements in the properties of chronic electrode
implants are required. Several issues, involved in acute and chronic
term tissue reactions, have been identified and need to be addressed:
support and electrode mechanical stiffness, insertion techniques,
tethering forces, materials biocompatibility.

PROJECT: The candidate will be involved in the design, fabrication and
test of microelectrode arrays - intracortical and epicortical - for both
recording and stimulation in rats, primates and humans. Activities will
include the development of: variable stiffness biocompatible polymers
for electrode support and insulation, nanomaterials for low noise
electrical interfaces, biocompatible hydrogels for nanomaterial
encapsulation and tissue interface, ultrathin flexible and compliant
conductors for wiring. In-vivo validation will be carried-out within the
research team.

REQUIREMENTS: we are seeking for outstanding candidates with a specific
interest on translational research and willing to contribute to the
development of the future of human-machine communication. The candidate
should have a background in one or more of the following fields:
Material Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Bioengineering or
Physics. Previous experience in the development of Brain Machine
Interfaces with knowledge of wet lab, polymer processing,
electrochemistry or clean room techniques is strongly welcomed.

POSITION OFFERED: post-doctoral starting position for 1 year renewable
for up to three years. Salary will be commensurate to qualification and
experience and in line with international standards.
